Icelandic Scientists are working on a project that
is turning Carbon Emissions into solid stone.
Carbon emissions affect our planet on a massive level. We have yet to find a good solution to eliminate and store these byproducts of our industrial society. The technique involves injecting the CO2 gas into underground volcanic basalt rock formations. With the most recent process, they were able to convert up to 98% of the carbon dioxide into solid rock over a period of less than two years!
The only downfall with this solution is the massive cost involved and the time it takes to convert it into a solid material. The further this technology progresses, the cost should eventually go down as it gains more popularity and wide spread use!
